Nystagmus
Information taken from the RNIB website rnib.org.uk
A sufferer with this condition has uncontrolled eye movement, the eyes ‘wobble’ constantly, either side to side or up and down. The condition can be diagnosed in very young children (infantile nystagmus) or later in life (acquired nystagmus).
The effect on sight with infantile nystagmus varies. The effect of improved vision may occur when the child holds their head in a certain position.
There is no cure, but the condition can be managed by spectacles or contact lenses, and a low vision assessment can provide practical help. In certain cases, medication and surgery can help.
